Estonian Wildlife Research
Eesti Metsloomauuringud
Estonia is unusual in having retained species-rich wildlife communities over time. However, financial constraints mean that detailed knowledge of our carnivores and other wildlife remains limited. Habitat loss, the construction of border fences and increasing human pressure are also exposing wildlife to growing risks. We need your help to bring knowledge of wildlife in Estonia to the highest scientific standard. We aim to support the wild animals living in Estonia by conducting innovative research that has not previously been carried out here.

Support independent wildlife research
Your support helps cover fieldwork, data collection and processing, and research activities. Without research, information about wildlife is merely opinion. We want to change this so that viable wildlife populations remain in Estonia in the future.
Current projects you can support: Bear Space-use Project
Future projects for which we are seeking funding are listed under Projects.
What we do
We conduct independent research so that decisions concerning wolves, bears, lynx and other species are based on verifiable facts rather than assumptions.
The organisation's work produces clear, broadly accepted research methods, public summaries and practical recommendations for preventing and managing conflicts between people and wildlife.
Why is our work needed?
1
Facts before decisions
We build a reliable picture of the status and trends of wildlife populations using transparent methods and verifiable data.
2
Independent and open
Our findings are publicly available and can be used by others: reports, research methods and study summaries are published openly.
3
Real-world impact
Sufficient information helps reduce conflicts between people and wildlife, guide preventive action and ensure that conservation decisions remain lawful and well founded.
